ALLOA skipper Andy Graham was disappointed his side failed to hold out for a valuable League One win over Airdrieonians last Saturday.

The Wasps twice took the lead, but were pegged back each time by the dogged away side.

Eventually, the Wasps were forced to settle for a point as the first half of their double-header against the Diamonds ended all square.

However, the defender reckons that on another day, the Wee County side would have won the game comfortably.

Graham told Advertiser Sport: “When you go ahead you expect to see the game out, and when you look at the chances we created we should have won it.

"Jordan Kirkpatrick was unlucky with a couple which on another day you’d expect him to score, and Ross Stewart has had one or two as well.

"Neil Parry has had to make the save from the penalty, but on the balance of chances from open play, we should have won the game.

“It’s very frustrating that at the start of the second half, we didn’t get going at all. That killed our momentum.

"They scored in that time, but, to be fair, we responded well to that and created a lot of chances after that spell.

“Games against Airdrie are always tight. There’s usually only one goal in it. They’re a good side with a lot of good players so you expect a tough game when you play them, and that’s usually the case in our games.”

As the Wasps head into the final quarter of the season with their playoff hopes still hanging in the balance, Graham says it’s vital the squad stay focused during the run-in.

“The last quarter of the season is so important," he added. "It’s all about momentum, and in a way I’m glad we’re still battling for a playoff place because it keeps everybody on their toes and everybody’s head in the right place.

"When you’ve been certain to finish in the playoffs for a long time it can take the edge off things a bit, whereas we are going to be fighting right up to the end.

"That’s a good thing, because it means everyone is chomping at the bit to get in the team. It will make sure we are all raring to go and get the results we need.”

The Wasps are currently occupying the final playoff spot in the League One table, and the captain insisted he would much rather that than be part of the chasing pack.

Graham said: “I’d rather be in our position than any of the teams below us. We aren’t sitting in a bad position at the minute and all we need to do is pick up a couple of wins and find a bit of consistency.

"That will make sure we cement that playoff spot, and I’m sure we’ll do that over the coming weeks.”
