ALLOA ace Steven Hetherington says he is ecstatic to have reached a century of games for the Indodrill Stadium outfit.

The midfielder reached the milestone as his side won at Forfar to cement their place in this season's playoffs.

And he reckons promotion would go straight in as his favourite moment from his four seasons in the Wee County.

Hetherington told Advertiser Sport: "I'm really pleased to have reached 100 games. The club's been good to me over the last four years.

"It didn't start particularly well for me here because I wasn't getting a game when I first arrived, but I knew I always had to be ready when called upon.

"It's a great achievement and I'm really proud of what I've done. Alloa is a great club to play for.

"The players have a great relationship with the fans and everyone at the club, from the chairman down to the kitman, is in it together. At some clubs you don't get that but it's different here."

Reflecting back on his time in black and gold, he added: "Being 2-0 down with 15 minutes to go against Rangers and winning 3-2 was very special. Setting up the winner is right up there in terms of my favourite memories.

"Turning around the deficit in the playoff final is up there too. But if we were to get promoted this season that would top the lot."

Hetherington says Alloa's victory at Station Park was the perfect tonic to their loss at home to Stranraer the previous week, and he believes going in front early on was vital.

He said: "It was a really professional performance from us. We got the job done.

"We have played against them a few times this season and we knew it was going to be a difficult game.

"Even though we've beaten them all four times, the games have been tight and that was the case again.

"We dominated the first half but in the second half they came at us, particularly in the last ten minutes, but we did enough to get the result we needed.

"Scoring first is obviously massive in deciding how the game is going to go. We've fought back a lot from losing positions this season but in terms of what we needed to do, it was important for us to score first.

"The first goal was crucial and once we got that, I always thought we'd go on to win the game."

Despite being secure in the playoffs with no hope of automatic promotion, the midfielder insisted that the Wasps are determined to throw a spanner in the works of Ayr United's planned title-winning party on Saturday.

Hetherington added: "I'm sure the Ayr fans will bring a decent support to our place because they are going for the league title. They will be right up for it, so we have to make sure we are at it as well.

"It will be a good game to play in because there will be a good crowd. It's the kind of game you want to play in, because although it's not going to have a defining impact on our season, it's still an important game."
