THE Alloa Athletic management team will be looking to make a big improvement in their playing staff for the new season now that relegation worries are over.
Allan Maitland has been encouraged by the performances shown recently by some of the club"s younger players.
The Alloa manager praised Marc McCafferty, John Grant, Gary Carroll, Greig Spence, Andy Scott, Jamie Hay, Hugh Kerr, Stevie Barker and Mark Ferguson and sees these boys as a strong ingredient for the near future.
In last weekend"s final home game against Brechin City Maitland said, 'It is nice to finish the season with a bit of better form with two draws and two victories, but overall it has been a disappointing season.
'Another good point is that youngster Greig Spence showed excellent composure to score twice. He is now recognised as a natural finisher. I felt it was important for us to finish on a high but I plan to keep strengthening our squad even more during the close season.'
There will be at least seven players not offered re-signing terms: Andy Ferguson, Steve McKeown, Fraser Forrest, Michael White, Kyle MacAulay, Pat Scullion and Iain Campbell.
Maitland has offered terms to Brown Ferguson, Chris Townsley, John Grant, David McClune, Andy Scott, Greig Spence, Marc McCafferty (pictured right), Dougie Wilson, Scot Buist and Dougie Hill. In fact Hill has not accepted these terms.
The situation with on-loan strikers Stuart Noble (Airdrie) and Brian Carrigan (Linlithgow Rose) could change if Maitland is able to strike a deal with these lads and their clubs.
