BOBBY HOPKINS wants his side to show a vast improvement in the new season.

The Alloa Athletic FC chairman (pictured) is determined there will be more goals scored and less lost to see the Wasps finish well away from the relegation play off group.

Last season the Wasps could chalk up only 11 league victories to finish in eighth position - only just above relegated Queen"s Park and Stranraer.

Hopkins, a former Fife Junior centre-forward with Clackmannan, told Advertiser Sport, 'I am looking forward to the new season when I feel at worst we should try to finish in third position.

'We have a good manager in Allan Maitland and a good assistant in James Ward, so hopefully they will do well for us in the new season.'

The chairman is pleased wit the new signings so far. He said, 'Goalkeeper David Crawford kept Alloa out when he was with Queen"s Park so I am pleased to see him now joining us.

'Midfielder Scott Agnew could knock in the crosses for us before he joined Ayr United and I"m sure he will do that again.

'Scott Walker always did well playing against us for Ayr or Brechin City so I am pleased to see him returning to join us in defence.

'His brother-in-law Brown Ferguson (our midfielder) will no doubt make sure of that!'

Speaking about the opening fixtures the chaiman added, 'We are at home to Albion Rovers on 4 July so we will see then how we shape up in that friendly game.

'But we have two hard away matches coming up - Ross County in the Challenge Cup on 25 July and Airdrie on 1 August in the CIS Cup.
