Scott Walker is looking forwards to Saturday cup tie at the new St Mirren Park.

IT has been a frustrating time for the club with games postponed due to the cold snap because Alloa were finding some good form.

And with winds coming in from Siberia this week, the idea of changing to summer football has never been more appealing. But that argument is for another day.

Although there has a been a run of cancelled games, the lads have been working tirelessly to maintain fitness levels. We've been training regularly doing high intensity cardiovascular work in the gym.

The team also played two games at the weekend there to get our match fitness up after the recent postponements. You can do a lot of work in the gym but the lads need game time.

Hamilton and Rob Roy Juniors provided the opposition and while we lost both matches it was about game time rather than results. The full squad was given the chance to play and the gaffer was chopping and changing things throughout the games.

Weather permitting, the squad will be heading for Paisley on Saturday to take on my old club St Mirren in the Scottish Cup. As a former St Mirren player, I am really looking forward to going and playing at their new pitch. All the lads are excited about the cup tie and hopefully we can put in a good performance for the fans. It would be great to force a replay and get them back to our patch.

For more from me on the big game read the cup preview in this week's Advertiser.

It is disappointing that Scotland will not be at this summer's world cup in South Africa. It is frustrating for a country that started this wonderful game that we can't get up to the right standard.

But looking ahead to the world cup, I feel a few teams have a real chance of winning, and it promises to be a very interesting competition.

As a football fan, I would love to see Brazil get to the final because they are a fantastic team and great to watch. England have the potential to do really well if they keep the squad fit. Rooney will be a big player for them and if he performs well they could go all the way.

It wouldn't surprise me, though, if one of the African nations teams won it either. They have guys playing in the top leagues in Europe and play some of the most exciting football.

I will watch as many games as I can during the summer. If I have to leave work early to catch the big games, I will.

Next week, I'll give you my reaction to the Scottish Cup tie and share my views on the managerial merry go round and the impact that can have on players.
