Alloa striker Jim Lister leaps into action against Stenhousemuir.

ALLOA Athletic’s new supersub Jim Lister hopes his strength in the air can cause Brechin City problems this weekend.

The hitman, who bagged a staggering 38 goals for junior side Bathgate Thistle last season, has made an impact from the bench in every league game so far this season, and been key to the side’s unbeaten start to the campaign.

Jim says he’s happy to play whatever role the gaffer wants him to and insists everyone in the squad is happy to do everything it takes to bring success to the club. He said, “All the players are on a high right now and want to do well for the club. There’s a real confidence that we can do well this season.”

Echoing what many other Wasps players have told the Advertiser in recent weeks, Jim says the spirit in the squad is second to none.

“The spirit at Alloa is brilliant,” he said. “I haven’t started any games yet but the lads all support each other. Nobody takes the huff if they don’t make the starting line up.”

He went on, “I’m enjoying it and have been getting a real buzz from coming off the bench for half an hour or so and trying to make an impact.”

Word from the Wasps dressing room is that his team mates believe he’s doing just that. They’ve knicknamed him Harry Callahan - from the hit 80s movie Sudden Impact.

Jim has been happy with his performances so far in the black and gold but says he won’t be setting himself any scoring targets.

“I am hard on myself and feel I could have scored a few more goals for Alloa but I won’t be setting myself any targets the way I did when I played in the juniors,” he said.

The Wasps, who sit in second spot in Division Two on goal difference behind Forfar Athletic, face a tough away game at Glebe Park on Saturday as they bid to continue their great start to the season.

Led by former Hearts player Jim Weir, Brechin also boast an unbeaten start to their campaign and sit just two points behind Alloa on five points, after a win and two draws.

They will hope their great record at home in recent seasons will give them the advantage but Wasps fans will believe their team boasts the firepower to see off a side which has conceded a solitary goal in the league.

Wasps gaffer Allan Maitland added, “With the strikers we have at this club, if we can keep clean sheets we have a great chance.”
