A NEW physiotherapist service offering local sports stars and their clubs expert treatment has opened at the Wasps Centre.

Premier Physio, at the former Zones building on Clackmannan Road, Alloa, is the base for Alloa Athletic physio Jim Law and Gavin McCarthy, who works for a Scottish Premier League side.

The pair have 26 years physio experience between them and say they are offering competitive rates to sports teams that sign up to use the practice.

Jim told the Advertiser, “We are trying to look at local clubs and make physio affordable by giving clubs good rates.

“Through the NHS you would have a waiting list of eight to 16 weeks but if we can offer reasonable rates we can offer it to a wider range of people right away - the clubs all get a fixed fee.”

Day job

When he’s not making sure the Wasps stars are ready for a Saturday afternoon Jim’s day job is with the NHS. He has previously worked for Hull Rugby Club and Dundee FC and specialises in musculoskeletal injuries.

Before moving into football Gavin was employed by the NHS and in private practice. He specialises in sports injuries, but also has a particular interest in spinal manipulation, tendon problems and acupuncture.

Treatments offered include electrotherapy, acupuncture and injection therapy.

Injuries

Jim added, “It isn’t just sports teams we will treat anybody. We do a lot of work for insurance companies with people who have been in road accidents and have injuries.”

Jim’s wife, Geraldine, is also involved with the clinic and concentrates on paediatrics.

In addition, the practice offers podiatry - treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower leg - through their podiatrist Diane McMillan.

Premier Physio is open Monday to Friday between 5pm and 10pm. For further details visit www.premierphysio.info or contact 01259 722157.
