PROLIFIC goalscorer Kevin Cawley has extended his contract with the Wasps until the end of next season.
The striker has notched up seven goals for the club so far this season.
It was for that reason that Alloa manager Paul Hartley approached him to extend his stay at Recreation Park to 2012/13.
He told Advertiser Sport, "We are trying to build a squad and the last thing we want to do is lose players in the summer.
"If you are doing well and scoring goals teams will approach you so I'm delighted Kevin has decided to remain here. He has been outstanding and is enjoying his football, and I enjoy working with him. He really works his socks off for the team."
Having secured the 22-year-old's future with the club, Hartley is turning his attention to Steve Masterton.
The midfielder has been out of action since the mid-week clash against Clyde last month due to ligament damage to his ankle.
His contract expires at the end of December and Hartley is expected to discuss his future within the next few weeks.
He went on, "I'll be looking to try and secure Steven until the end of the season. He is enjoying being at the club and he has a lot to offer the team. But first we need to get him fit and back playing again."
A question-mark remains over whether Masterton will be ready for this Saturday's match against Queen's Park at home.
Another doubt is midfielder Ross McCord who has been struggling with a knee injury which resulted in him being sidelined in last week's clash against Montrose.
Hartley said, "He (McCord) has been feeling his knee and has been struggling with it the last couple of weeks. We felt we had to leave him out to get him back nice and fresh."
In that game, which ended 1-1 (Alloa's third draw in a row), there were a few knocks including Graeme Holmes who was replaced by Craig Campbell five minutes from the end.
But while some regular players may be out with niggles, Saturday could see the arrival of new faces to the side, with Hartley expected to sign a couple of players on-loan this week.
The last time Queen's Park and Alloa met was at Hampden in September where the visitors ran away victors with Cawley scoring a brace in the first half.
That game ended 3-1 and since then the Wasps have been flying high near the top of the Third Division table, however Hartley knows his team should not be complacent.
He said, "There are no easy games. They are a young energetic team and it will be another tough match."
