STRIKER Stevie May celebrates with Alloa's goalscorer Michael Doyle in the 1-0 win over Queen's Park.

TEENAGE striker Stevie May is relishing the chance of some first-team action and hopes to help Alloa Athletic in their challenge for the Third Division title.

The 19-year-old signed on loan from St Johnstone last week and made his debut in Saturday's victory over Queen's Park at Recreation Park.

Hearts defender Kevin McHattie (18) has also joined Paul Hartley's side on loan, with both players staying with the Wasps until the end of January.

While May was delighted to play his part in Alloa's win over the Spiders, he admitted the game had been more physical than he had expected.

May told Advertiser Sport, "At St Johnstone, with the number of strikers we have and their quality, I didn't get as much chance as I would have liked.

"Now that I am at Alloa I hope to be scoring goals. It was a bit different today - with everyone kicking lumps out of each other!

"I missed a couple of chances, but once I get a couple of games under my belt, I expect to be sharper and hopefully the goals will follow.

"At the end of the day it was most important we took the points - it was a good win."

Manager Hartley was pleased with the performances of both loan signings, and believes May and McHattie can make an impact during their time at The Recs.

Next up for the Wasps before the Christmas break is a trip south to face Berwick Rangers. The last time the pair met both teams took a share of the points with the final result at 1-1.

It was also the final league game for Berwick under the stewardship of Jimmy Crease. Crease stood down after Berwick went out of the Scottish Cup losing by four goals to nil against Deveronvale.

But they will be a tough prospect for Alloa having improved under acting manager Ian Little.

Since that cup defeat the side have only lost once (against Clyde earlier this month), and are challenging for the play-offs.

The results have lead the board to give Little until the end of the year to prove himself as Berwick manager.

Alloa Athletic, meanwhile, have gone on a seven-match streak without a loss and remain unbeaten at home in the league this season.
