I'd love to help Wasps win Third Division title
ON-LOAN striker Stevie May would love the chance to help Alloa Athletic win the Third Division title - but he could also find himself up against top Scottish Premier League defenders before the end of the season.
The 19-year-old St Johnstone player is enjoying his loan spell at Recreation Park and has already made a big impression, netting a hat-trick in his last outing against East Stirlingshire at the beginning of the month.
He's currently due to stay with Alloa until the end of January, but Wasps boss Paul Hartley would like to extend his loan deal until the end of the season.
However, whether May remains at The Recs or returns to Perth could very much depend on what striking options are available to St Johnstone boss Steve Lomas come the end of the transfer window.
With Saints' on-form striker Fran Sandaza attracting interest from other clubs, including Rangers, May could be recalled if the Spaniard leaves McDiarmid Park.
This week, though, Saints managed to secure former Celtic striker Cillian Sheridan on loan from Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia until the end of the season, which might allow May to stay with the Wasps.
Happy
The player is certainly enjoying his time with Alloa, and would be happy to stay for longer.
He said, "I'm delighted to be playing regular first team football and I certainly couldn't have asked for better than to score three goals against East Stirling.
"The team is playing great football at the moment. It's a great opportunity for me and I have been encouraged by everyone at the club who want me and the team to do well.
"I'm happy to be playing games and scoring goals."
May continued, "I am currently on loan until later in the month. I don't know what will happen after that.
"I just what to be playing football and I would be happy to stay with Alloa Athletic for longer
"It might give me the chance to win a championship medal. I'd love to help the club win promotion back to the Second Division."
May's goalscoring exploits, though, have impressed Saints gaffer Lomas, who says he will assess his striking options before deciding what to do.
Confidence
Lomas said, ''We're delighted for Stevie and his recent hat-trick will have sent his confidence soaring. We have already seen the benefits of his loan spell in training sessions. He is really buzzing.
''I'll have to sit down with my coaches to assess whether Stevie will be involved if he comes back, or whether it is better for him to be getting more first-team experience and getting goals at Alloa.''
The Saints boss added, ''I know Paul Hartley and he has been good for Stevie. He is a young manager who has a wealth of experience at top clubs as a player and Stevie is learning all the time.''
May made a number of top-team appearances for St Johnstone last season but his opportunities were restricted this term by the arrival of Sandaza, Sheridan and Marcus Haber.
In the meantime, May is still available to Alloa and is expected to be included in the side against Annan Athletic at Recreation Park this Saturday.
With both sides currently challenging for top spot in the table, more goals from May could make a big difference to the Wasps' title bid.
