ROSS McKINNON is delighted with his debut goal for Alloa Athletic after joining on loan from Motherwell, and inset, on-loan striker Stevie May celebrates his eighth goal for the Wasps.
ON-LOAN defender Ross McKinnon continued the trend of new Alloa Athletic players scoring soon after signing.
The 19-year-old hit the back of the net with a stunning debut goal against Montrose on Saturday.
It came within days of him coming to Recreation Park on loan from Motherwell.
Similarly midfielder Stevie Masterton scored on his October debut with the club and on-loan St Johnstone striker Stevie May scored a week after joining in December.
McKinnon said, "It was a great start, a good win although we didn't play that well. We won 2-0 so that's always good."
His goal, with his weaker foot, helped the Wasps edge out Montrose, with May scoring in injury time.
He said, "It was my right foot, my bad one, so you'll be lucky to see that again. It was my first goal with my right foot in years."
McKinnon, nephew of Fir Park and Scotland internationalist Rab, was brought into the squad at the same time that the club said farewell to on-loan Hearts defender Kevin McHattie.
He said, "I signed on Wednesday and trained with the team for the first time on Thursday. It's just good to get some games because I've not been playing at Motherwell.
"My contract runs out at the end of the season so I'm trying to get some matches under my belt. Hopefully I'll get another deal at Mothwerwell, if not, somewhere else. My uncle Rab just told me to get games and try and get my fitness up."
Earlier this season McKinnon spent a month on loan to Second Division Dumbarton.
He continued, "I'll train with Motherwell every day and join up with the guys here twice a week. I'm just looking forward to the rest of the season."
Wasps manager Paul Hartley was pleased with McKinnon's debut and said his addition to the squad would strengthen their push for promotion.
That push will be tested this Saturday as they face promotion chasing Queen's Park at Hampden.
Hartley said, "There is a great atmosphere at the club at the moment. We all get on well at the club I have a good relationship with my chairman and the players so there is a good spirit amongst everyone just now at the club.
"It was a bit of a disaster for the club being relegated to the Third Division at the end of last season. We are all in it together - everybody right down to the back room men - and try to create a good team spirit among the players."
