Alloa defender Lewis Wilson, is confident Scotland can continue to thrive in the high-pressure environment after they prevented England from lifting the Centenary Shield at Ewood Park last Friday night with a 1-1 draw.

With one game to play – a trip to Dublin later this month – Wilson and Scotland are unbeaten and victory against the Republic of Ireland will see them share the Shield with the auld enemy.

The youngster was one of three players from Recreation Park in the squad alongside Michael Hardie and goalscorer Scott Hynd and the Wasps full back aims to use the experience to better himself as a player going forward.

Wilson said, “It is the best way to learn because of the pressure involved. Going to places like Ewood Park tests you and that can only be a good thing. To have Scott and Michael alongside me definitely helps.

“It’s a big stadium and we are playing for national teams so that environment helps you to develop and I want to use that to help me kick-on and become professional. I think now it’s a case of going and getting the job done and I don’t see why we can’t do that.” Meanwhile, goal-hero Scott Hynd paid tribute to his Recreation Park team mate for his part in the goal and reckons the fact that Wilson was in the first team squad for the clash with Greenock Morton less than 24 hours after the Scotland game is a testament to his fitness.

Hynd added, “If anyone else deserves credit it is Lewis Wilson and I couldn’t of been happier with who assisted the goal. Lewis put in a really hard shift and was brilliant up and down the left hand side.

“To be in the first team squad the very next day must have been so tiring for him but then the buzz you get off being involved would have got him through it with ease. He’s a machine and could run for days.” TSB, proud partner of the Scottish Schools’ FA, is delighted to support the Scotland U18 schoolboys squad for their 2014 Centenary Shield campaign.
