Gutted Wasps hero Daryll Meggatt has revealed his pain at having to miss his side’s clash with Rangers this weekend.

The former Queen’s Park star suffered a broken foot in the 3-0 win over Cowdenbeath then played through the pain barrier in games against Hibs, Hamilton, Morton and Livingston before finally having to admit defeat to the injury after last Saturday’s match, writes Graeme Lafferty.

The 23-year-old, despite his disappointment at missing out on the high profile clash, is certain his team mates can get the job done without him.

Meggatt told Advertiser sport, “Unfortunately, my foot injury means I will be missing for next three to four weeks. When it originally happened I thought it was something I could maybe play through and that’s why I have played the last three games but it felt really sore after the weekend and that was when it was confirmed as a fracture to my fifth Metatarsal.

“The timing of it couldn’t be worse and gutted is an understatement about missing our first match against Rangers but I have got to be smart about it and make sure it heals properly so that I don’t do anymore damage to it.

“Obviously, the fact that we have potentially another four games against them is a bonus for us as a club and for me personally but I know the boys will rally round in my absence because the quality is there right throughout the team and I am sure who ever gets the nod will fill in no problem. If we play the way we know we can then we definitely have the ability to cause them problems.” Meggatt has flourished this season since being shifted from left back into central defence alongside skipper Ben Gordon but says he is happy to play anywhere the manager wants him too.

Now he is just now focusing on a quick recovery from injury then picking up where he left off but knows he will have to fight for his spot on his return.

He said, “I am happy to play at full back, centre half or wherever the manager wants me to play. It is all one to me and I just want to do my bit for the team and put a shift in where ever i need to.

“I hope that after the injury heals I can hopefully get back in and pick up where I left off but I know it wont be easy because we have a quality squad here and who ever fills in will do a great job.

“That is a good thing for the team and it keeps the standards high with the battle for places being so competitive.” The versatile defender admits the club’s 4-0 defeat to John McGlynn’s men was tough to take but he believes the Wasps must put that performance to one and look to go and shock Rangers this weekend.

Meggatt added, “The Livingston game was a sore one to take for us but we weren’t good enough on the day and the better team won. It is still early in the season though and so there is no need for us to panic.

“We have just got to dust ourselves down and try to make amends against Rangers. We can be a match for anyone on our day in my opinion, so I know the boys will go into the game with no fears.

“We are a fit bunch and we’ve got great quality as well as belief in the dressing room. So we will be looking to bounce back against Rangers. There’s no pressure on us and Rangers have all the pressure to perform and get the result.”
