Gutted Wasps star Graeme Holmes admits the 3-1 defeat to their bogey team Dumbarton last weekend was hard to take.

Despite having the lion’s share of the chances, Alloa left the Bet Butler Stadium empty handed but the visitor’s man-of-the-match reckons it is once again down to their own short comings, and not their poor record against the Sons.

Holmes told Advertiser sport, “It is a sore one to take because it is once again down to individual errors. We were probably on top when they got their goals as well which is tough to take.

“We can’t legislate for the error in the first goal, these things happen, but we came back from a goal down against Hibs and so we should be able to do it against any team.

“This wasn’t our best performance for whatever reason and that is disappointing especially after the performance against Rangers. We had a number of chances in the game, especially in the first half, but we have got to take our chances.

“They have had one chance and scored from it in the first half and that says it all. I felt like it was a really even game overall and so it is very hard to take to lose it 3-1. I don’t think the Dumbarton hoodoo comes into it before the game but our record doesn’t make for good reading. That is something we will have to rectify the next time around.” The former Morton and Dunfermline midfielder says they will still take the positives from the game as they head to Falkirk to face their local rivals this weekend.

He said “We will have to react better to conceding and not let our heads drop so easily but I am not worried by this result because we have still created the chances despite not being at our best. We know we are capable of beating anyone on our day and we will take that forward into a difficult game with Falkirk.” Holmes revealed how the whole squad have got a lift from seeing summer signing David Weatherston return to full training last week and he hopes the new boy can finally make an impact on the park.

Holmes added, “David Weatherston looks to be on the mend, it has been great to get him back into full training and that will be a massive boost for us because I know he will be a top player for us.”
