Alloa defender Kyle Benedictus says they have no fears about facing Rangers in their Petrofac Training Cup Semi Final clash at the Indodrill Stadium tonight (Wednesday).

The Wasps have been impressive in two solid draws with the Ibrox men already this season, and the on-loan Dundee defender reckons the Light Blues won’t find it any easier in Clackmannanshire this time around.

Benedictus told Advertiser sport: “We have performed really well against them this season and gained two draws so while they are the heavy favourites for the game, I don’t think we have anything to fear from them because we handled them very well in both games.

“Rangers will find it difficult coming here again, Alloa is a difficult place to come no matter who you are and so on Wednesday we will be ready to give it another real go.

“Our results against them gives us confidence and proves we can match them so hopefully we can do the same again. I thought we at least deserved something.

“Hibs did well in the first half, but we really came back at them in the second.

“They didn’t create much in the second to be honest and we had a number of chances as we really heaped the pressire on, but we just couldn’t get that second goal.

“That’s the way things have gone in our last two games, but we know things can turn again quickly for us.” Benedictus says the whole squad are raring to go for the big occasion and he admits he would love to make it through to his second Challenge Cup final after winning it with Dundee back in 2008.

He said: “The Rangers game is a massive one for us as players because not many people get to play in a semi final, let alone against one of half of the Old Firm.

“I played with Dundee when they won the cup back in 2008, that way a great day for me and I would love to reach another final here with Alloa. Of course though, any game against Rangers is going to be a difficult one.” Wasps Gaffer Barry Smith has an ever-growing injury list at the moment leaving his side to struggle on with the bare minimum, but the 28-year-old believes the team will rally round.

Benedictus added: “I have been at the club for while now and the standard here at Alloa is very high.

“There are a number of the lads that would cope easily at a higher level so we just have to club together just now, tough it out with the injuries that we have and hopefully they won’t be absent for too long.”
