Alloa star Daryll Meggatt says all the pressure is on Rangers ahead of their Petrofac Training Cup semi final showdown at the Indodrill Stadium tonight (Wednesday).

The 24-year-old defender insists the Wasps will not be fazed by the big occasion and is hopeful of a cup shock after holding Ally McCoist’s men to draws twice already this season.

Meggatt told Advertiser sport: “We know we are underdogs for the Rangers game, but we have matched twice already this season and got two draws with them.

“We should probably have beaten at home when they equalised late then we obviously played really well to get the draw at Ibrox.

“All of the pressure will be on them once again, we have nothing to lose as underdogs and hopefully we can progress and get ourselves into the cup final.

“In terms of the occasion itself it will be a massive day for the boys, but everybody is composed within the team and once the starting whistle blows nothing else will matter as we focus purely on the game.

“I don’t see any problems with us coping with it and the cameras didn’t have any effect on us when we beat Dunfermline in the playoffs a few years ago.

“Rangers’ win over Kilmarnock will have their tails up again, but I think they have found so far this season that they can’t just turn up and expect to beat us because we will match them all the way and hopefully we can do that again on Wednesday.” The Ibrox men were highly critical of the pitch of the surface at the Indodrill Stadium following their last visit to Clackmannanshire ended in a 1-1 draw back in September, but the former Queens Park trainee says his side’s performance at Ibrox on the grass last time disproved their theory that the pitch was a factor in the result.

Meggatt said: “We are hugely confident after the Ibrox match with them because it proved that our fitness levels are right up there with them.

“We are at home so we will need to go and attack them.

“I think if we can replicate our Ibrox performance and stay focused on the job at hand then we can definitely get to the final. I don’t think our pitch is a factor.

“They weren’t happy with it in the first game here and said it affected the game, but then we went to Ibrox and got the same result so I don’t see it as a big thing.” Meggatt admits the Wasps were disappointed to be eliminated from the Scottish Cup after being edged out by Hibs at the weekend and says he would trade-in his goal for a victory any day of the week.

He added: “I think we matched Hibs and really had them on the back foot in the second half. We are just quite disappointed to be out of the cup after a decent performance, but ultimately it is two goals from set pieces that has cost us, so we know we must do better.

“We have a few injuries at the moment, but we don’t use that as an excuse because that is just how things are for a part-time club.

“Everyone just has to chip in and play their part. For my goal it was a case of ‘if you don’t shoot, you don’t score’, but I still wasn’t expecting it to go in and I was actually running to get back into position when I heard the roar of the crowd. So I was a bit shocked myself and while it is always good to score, I would much rather have had the win.”
