Alloa boss Barry Smith has revealed his fired up squad were left frustrated after heavy snow saw their SPFL Championship showdown with Livingston called off last weekend.

The Wasps have been playing well of late without being rewarded for their performances with points and the gaffer reckons his squad are now desperate for the Raith game to come around so they can right a few wrongs from the past few games.

Raith Rovers head into the game off the back of a solid 2-0 home win over Dumbarton and the manager, who took in the game, reckons it proves just how difficult a threat the Fifers will pose for his men.

Smith told Advertiser sport: “I managed to get to the Raith game last weekend and they played very well. They controlled the game in the first half and then were able to be very resilient in the second to secure the points so we know it will be another tough game for us.

“Since mid-November, we have played the top five sides in our league in nine out of our last 10 games so it has been a very tough run of games.

“We have always been competitive in every game and never been run over at any point so that is the positive for us. These are the games now, against the sides around us, where we must pick up points, but the players know that.

“We must be confident that if we keep putting the performances then we will pick up the necessary points we need.

“We had a good week’s training last week and I could really tell that the players had the bit between their teeth going into the Livingston game. They always work hard in training, but you could just tell they were even more desperate to do well in the game so it is disappointing to have it called off.

“It is always better to play another game as quickly as possible after a defeats in that sense it is frustrating, but we can’t control the weather so we move on and look forward to the Raith game.” Alloa star Daryll Meggatt was this week linked with a summer move to SPFL Premiership side Dundee and while his current manager admits it may be difficult to hold onto his talented defender come June, he also reckons it is a major compliment to both player and club that they are attracting interest from bigger clubs.

Smith said: “It is good for the club that players are linked with Premiership clubs like Dundee. It shows how well they have done that teams are standing up and taking notice of our players. That can only be a positive thing for the club.

“Obviously, we wouldn’t like to lose a player of Daryll’s quality, but at the same time if he is looking to go full time in the summer then we wouldn’t stand in his way because he is out of contract. He is our player until that point., but I think it is credit to him for his performances of late that he has got that link with other clubs, but we will have to wait and see what happens.” Smith has had hectic month so far searching for players to add to his current squad in the January transfer window and the former Dundee boss revealed he is inching closer to his first addition.

He added: “We are speaking to an SPFL Premiership club about a loan player which we thought we had agreed, but it has taken a bit longer to be confirmed, but we are still hopeful.”
