Alloa Athletic starlet Levi Fernandez looks set to realise his dream this summer by competing for the Fillipines national side in their World Cup Qualifiers.

And now the talented young star, who is of Fillipino descent through his mum and grandmother, has revealed how thankful he is to the Clackmannanshire outfit for making his dreams become a reality.

The tricky winger is about to embark on a loan spell with Fillipino side Stallion FC for the remainder of the season as he bids to seal a national passport to allow him to be considered for selection for the Azkals ahead of their qualifying campaign.

Fernandez told Advertiser sport: “A friend of my agent, David Verlaque, had previously worked with Graeme Liveston at Dundee Utd and asked him to give me a trial.

“Graeme asked me to come in for a game and it went on from there. In terms of fitting into my future plans, I think Alloa is a perfect club for me to lift off from and really start my senior career.

“I am grateful for the opportunity here at the club and I cannot thank them enough for their help in realising my World Cup dream. My contract is until the end of the season with an option of another year.

“I’m set for a loan with a club called Stallion FC, who will help me acquire my Filipino passport for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers and that is an opportunity that I just couldn’t turn down.

“The opportunity first came in 2012 when I first signed my first pro deal and played with the U21s.

“For me to play in the World Cup would be a dream come true; even in the qualifiers would be a dream.

“Just one cap and that would be everything I wished for come true.” Fernandez has been plying his trade in the development league with the Alloa reserves squad and featured in their clash with Raith Rovers, but he admits it may be his last appearance in the black and gold for this season.

The 21-year-old has been hoping to catch the eye of the club’s coaches and hopes a positive spell in the Phillipines can help him return to Clackmannanshire ready to force his way into the first team plans.

He said: “At the moment, I’m enjoying playing with the reserves and my aim is to really break into the first team at Alloa by pre-season.

“I’m looking to play first team football also while playing with the national team.” He added: “I believe we can stay in the league, there’s enough players at the club that could play even higher than the Championship, and it is just a case of them keeping on believing and we’ll be here next season.

“I am now really looking forward to seeing the who the new gaffer is and impressing him. Hopefully it is a fresh chance to get into the squad for next season and that is my aim.” The former Dagenham and Redbridge star has heaped praise on the Wasps for the welcoming atmosphere within the club and he now hopes he can return in the summer with the chance to repay them on the pitch.

Fernandez added: “Alloa Athletic is a club where every single coach, player, and fan has shown me respect and love in some way, shape or form.

“Everyday I look to impress every single one of them. That’s what happens when you join a new club, its joining a new family, so hopefully I can repay them for that on my return.”
