ALLOA goal-hero Kevin Cawley reckons their comprehensive 3-0 win over Dumbarton could prove to be a turning point in their season.

New boss Danny Lennon could not have asked for a better first game in charge after a commanding performance from his new side on route to their first win in 17 meetings with the Sons.

The former Celtic trainee reckons you could see the influence of the new gaffer as their confidence continued to grow throughout the 90 minutes.

Cawley told Advertiser sport: “It is a great feeling to get back to winning ways and post three points on the board again.

“I think it was no less than we deserved for the way we played in the game. The manager has came in and gave us a real lift, but from the outset he made it crystal clear how vital it was to win this game.” The goal hero continued: “We got off to a flyer, pressed them high up the pitch and we never looked back after the quick start.

“The whole team worked their socks off and you could see the confidence we got from the opening goal and we never looked back.

“We haven’t done that in a long time, but its great to dominate a game as well. The new manager has changed much and we always knew there wasn’t much wrong, but we have a bit more freshness in the team with the likes of Flannigan coming in and doing so well.

“It has just been a few little tweaks that have made all the difference.

“The manager is very vocal and always demands high standards from us and that rubs off on the players for sure.” Cawley scored his side’s crucial second goal with a spectacular 25-yard strike and he was thrilled to do it in such an important match.

He said: “I have scored a few special strikes, but I think that one even tops my strike against Falkirk and it was right in the corner.

“I was delighted with the goal, but more how important it was in securing a vital win for us.

“It’s getting very tight now at the bottom. Livingston are obviously flying after the cup final and a few wins on the spin.

“Cowdenbeath have also picked up a few points in recent weeks, but we just have to look after ourselves and take each game at a time.” James Fowler’s play-off hopefuls Queen of the South are the next visitors to the Indodrill Stadium.

And the in-form attacker hopes they can now head into the game full of confidence and get another good result.

Cawley added: “The Queen of the South game is now massive for us and hopefully we have now turned a corner with the Dumbarton victory.

“They will be on a high from the Rangers result and they are still right in their battling for a playoff spot with Falkirk so we know how tough it’s going to be, but we can take great confidence into the game.

“The clean sheet is also important for us going into such a tough game and hopefully it is something to build on for us.”
