Alloa boss Danny Lennon says his men are fully prepared for their ‘David vs Goliath’ clash with Hibernian at Easter Road this Saturday.

The Wasps are two games unbeaten under their new boss and he believes his side must show the same level of performances in their next two games if they are to remain in the SPFL Championship for another season.

The manager has a full strength side to choose from for the trip to Easter Road as Mark Docherty returns to the fold after the midfielder completed a suspension, and the former St Mirren boss believes it is an arena the players should relish playing in.

Lennon told Advertiser sport: “Saturday is very much a David vs Goliath scenario as we travel to face one of the biggest clubs in the country, but we have already beaten Hibs this season and we must use that to show our belief that we can go there this Saturday and do something. Everyone wants to go and place in the best grounds and test themselves against the best. That is what you all your days as a footballer for and as a young boy you dream of playing in stadiums like Easter Road.

“Our fate is in our own hands to stay in this league so we will have to go their and earn the right to compete and give ourselves a great chance of staying up. Livingston pushed Hibs all the way on Wednesday and hopefully we can do the same. Hibs have down well this season and they will still be hurting from the missed opportunity of reaching a Scottish Cup final, but they were thoroughly professional in midweek and deserved the points.

“We have good players at this football club and they just need to show those same levels of desire, focus and commitment in the last two games and I am confident we can get the job done. We must keep our eye on the fact that if we win our next two games then we are safe. In many respects, it doesn’t matter who the opposition are at this stage of the season, or where we are playing. Our focus must be 100% on winning the match and putting some more points on the board.” Lennon has been impressed with the response he has had from his players since his arrival, but believes they will need to give 100% in their last two games to see off the challenge from Cowdenbeath and Livingston.

He added: “The boys are competing well and giving their all and I cannot ask anymore of them. There is only two games left for Ourselves, Livingston and Cowdenbeath and I still believe that there will be a lot of twists and turns over those games. Obviously, everyone wants to be where Cowdenbeath are right now and that is the prize we are all fighting for. The prize to earn the right to play in this division next season against top quality sides.

“We are still in that sprint finish for 8th spot with one team in front of the other and each team is busting a gut to get over that finishing line in front and we are going with everything we’ve got. The players have shown that since I have come in and so we are hungry and fully committed to earning the right to be in this league next season.” Meanwhile, former Alloa boss Barry Smith is expected to be announced as the new boss of English Vanarama Conference side Aldershot Town early next week after agreeing terms.
