WASPS goal machine Liam Buchanan says his goal in the playoff final win over Forfar is one of the most important of his career to date.

The hitman has enjoyed one of his best ever seasons this term and scored his 18th goal of the season in the 3-0 win last weekend, but he feels like his strike to level the tie at 3-3 in that game is worth more than all the others.

The 29-year-old striker also urged gaffer Danny Lennon to build a team around the strong group of lads already at the Indodrill Stadium as they prepare for another exciting year in the Championship.

Buchanan told Advertiser sport: “We were just as confident as going through after the 3-1 loss as we were when we were 2-0 up on Brechin. We took confidence from the game and took the positives out of it and I think you could see that.

“The boys in the dressing room here will never give in, we keep going until the end and I think we proved that it is a special group of boys we have here.

“For us to go and survive against a lot of full time clubs this season, we have shown our spirit time and time again so if the manager is looking to build a team here then he should build it on boys like these with the attitude and determination.

“Next year will be another great league to be part of now and probably another rollercoaster. It is has been a superb season for me and I’m delighted to have got the goals, but my goal from the final is one of the most important I’ve scored and those ones always mean more.” Buchanan admits that the manner of their second leg comeback and the way it panned out on the day was something they could only dream of heading into the match.

He said: “To win the game in the emphatic manner that we did then we really couldn’t have planned it any better. To round our season off with a display like that was very pleasing because a lot of people had written us off after the first leg defeat.

“We showed great character once again and we always believed we could do it so it was just about proving it out there. I think the first two goals come at the perfect time for us and when you get chances like that in these type of games then you’ve got to take them.

“Forfar are a good side who limited us to very little and made us work for what we got and I think Chopra’s goal is especially vital for us because it gave us an extra lift for the second half.” After such an impressive individual season in Clackmannanshire, the for Partick Thistle striker insists he is in no rush to leave Alloa and will sit down with the manager in the next few weeks to discuss his future.

Buchanan added: “I have loved my year here so I don’t see why there is a need to change it, but I will sit down with the manager and wait to see what happens for next season.”
