Alloa boss Danny Lennon made a triple signing earlier this week as he begins to step up his summer recruitment drive for his new look side.

The Wasps confirmed the signing of veteran ex-Livingston midfielder Burton O’Brien along with former Rangers full back Kyle McAusland, while defender Dougie Hill also agreed to sign on for a third spell with the club.

The gaffer is delighted with his new additions and hopes they will each bring their own qualities to the side, and thinks they will add some much needed steel to his squad. Lennon told Advertiser sport: “It gives me great pleasure to add these three new signings for the club. Burton is a player who brings a wealth of quality and experience to our midfield.

“He has played in the English championship, represented his country at U21 level, lifted silverware, won player of the year awards and played almost 400 games in a tremendous career. At 34, some people may be worried about his fitness levels, but he played almost every minute of 37 games for Livingston last year. He has a tremendous ability to read the game with fantastic vision.

“He can take the ball under pressure and bring other players into the game through his range of passing. He will also be contributing on the coaching side for us throughout the season. I am really pleased to have a player of his experience, character and ability at our club. I had the pleasure of coaching Dougie Hill at Cowdenbeath a number of years back.

“He is a former Alloa player and delighted to making a return to our club. He has real quality about him as a centre half, which he showed in winning the man of the match award when Raith Rovers beat Rangers 1-0 in the Challenge Cup final in 2014.

“He has plenty of experience playing in this division, having spent the last six years with Raith Rovers. He also brings a goal threat at set pieces, having scored 27 goals in his career.

“Kyle came through the Rangers youth system and has 8 caps for Scotland at U17 and U19 level. Although he is only 22, he has played almost 100 senior games for Rangers, Ayr United, Brechin City and Dunfermline.

“He can play on the right side of the defence or midfield and can offer something in and around the opposition’s box as well, as he has scored seven goals and made 14 assists in his young career so far. Kyle has the potential to play at a higher level, so to be playing in the championship this season is the right step for him as he looks to fulfil more of that potential, develop himself as a player and progress his career.” Lennon now hopes to add further fresh blood in the coming weeks as he continues to shape his new look side in preparation for the new SPFL Championship season.

He said: “Although I’ve been on holiday for 3 weeks with my family, I have been working every day.

“That work has intensified over the last few days as we look to finalise the fine details on contracts for the players we have identified for our assault on the Championship this coming season.

“Some of the players we have made verbal agreements with are finishing off holidays and work trips, which is why these announcements will be a bit spread out.” Meanwhile, Alloa were dealt a huge double blow earlier this week when top scorer Liam Buchanan signed a two-year deal at league rivals Livingston, but the former St Mirren gaffer revealed he is already searching further afield for a new hitman.

Lennon added: “We had expected to have a French striker here, but he has unfortunately picked up an injury and we are not prepared to gamble on it.

“We have replaced him with another striker who has played the majority of his career in Italian football and is looking to use Alloa as a platform to impress and make a step up to a bigger club in British football.

“It’s going to be a busy few weeks, with a lot of dialogue with a lot of people still to come, but our squad is shaping up nicely.”
