Alloa boss Danny Lennon is pleased with a home draw in the second round of the Petrofac Cup after his side were paired with Elgin City.

The Wasps have faced a number of Highland League sides already this summer and the gaffer is well aware that the League Two outfit will provide a much sterner test.

Lennon told Advertiser sport: “I am delighted with the home draw and it is great to be associated with another highland-based team. We have had a wonderful journey in terms of our pre-season games with Keith, Inverurie, Huntly and then obviously Brora Rangers last weekend so Elgin will be another step up again.

“We certainly know that will be in for a tough game because Jim Weir has come in there and really progressed the club. They had a fantastic result at the weekend to come from behind twice to beat Stirling Albion so we know they will make it difficult for us. I am delighted for the fans that we could get a home draw because they have deserved it for the way they have followed us over the summer.

“It is also better for us in terms of our fixtures schedule that week because we play Rangers on the Sunday and then have a game the following Saturday so a long trek north in midweek wouldn’t have been ideal.” Lennon is desperate to do well in the competition that saw the club reach the final last season and says his players will give their all to deliver another exciting cup run for the fans.

He added: “We have important games between now and then, but when the game comes around we will give our all to try to progress to the next round.

“We enjoyed a bit of cup success last season and we certainly want to try and create more memories this season.”
