Alloa captain Dougie Hill says his side have nothing to fear when they take on an in-form Rangers side in the live TV clash in the SPFL Championship this Sunday.

The game has been announced as complete sell out and will be broadcast live on BT Sports, but the Wasps defender reckons it is the perfect game to bounce back from their opening day defeat to Queen of the South.

Hill told Advertiser sport: “Last week was poor from us and I felt like the back four or five including the keeper let the rest of the team down. I thought the midfield played really well and big Geoff and Chopra caused problems in the second half. The goals we lost were farcical, but there is no time to sit and feel sorry for ourselves in this league, we just need to get on with it. There is absolutely no better game for us to bounce back in.

“There will be a big crowd there, the club had a decent record against them last year and there is definitely nothing to fear from them. I know from the players that we have here and the qualities they possess, that we have enough to hurt them. We will just go into the game and try to play Danny’s brand of football and hopefully that is good enough to get us a result.” Hill played against the Gers four times with Raith Rovers last term and he believes having that kind of experience throughout the squad might just be crucial for them.

The 31-year-old defender is confident his side have a good mix of youth and experience and he sees no reason why their in-form young guns would be overawed by the experience.

He said: “I think having the experience within the group of playing against Rangers before is vital and we have a number of boys who have done that. These games are all about keeping it tight. Danny wants us to play football so we will continue to do that, try and keep things tight at the back and then look to take our chances. I haven’t seen much of Rangers yet this season, but Danny is meticulous in his preparation and so whatever style they look to play, he will set out the team to counter that.

“You never know how the younger lads will do in a game like this with the crowd and the live TV cameras. Some will thrive on it and others will just need to be told to settle down, but myself, Chopra and Bobo have all been there and done it before. It is just a case of guiding them through. The two Celtic lads in particular look like nothing fazes them when they play. Michael has done it before in Ireland and Conor is a great talent so I don’t see either being effected by the occasion.” Meanwhile, Danny Lennon’s men have been made the new clear favourites with the bookmakers to be relegated from the Championship come may, but the skipper warned that others should write them off at their peril.

Hill added: “A lot of people are already writing us off as relegation candidates, but I am more confident we can do well after last weekend. Queen of the South are still a good side and that is always a tough place to go. Although they have lost a lot of their players, they have brought good players in too.

“I felt we were the better side in first half despite being 3-0 down. We had the better chances then in the second half we got our goal and then had to go a bit gung-ho so there is much to come from us. I certainly don’t think we will be the whipping boys of the division, but people can write us off if they want. I have been in this league for the past few years now and so I know by the type of players we have at the club that we can still do well in this division.”
