AS THEY press on strongly in their bid to lift the Second Division title, Raith Rovers will no doubt be fired up this Saturday when they visit Recreation Park.
Their last trip to Alloa on 9 December ended in bitter disappointment for Rovers when the Wasps knocked them out of the Homecoming Scottish Cup in the third round replay.
Since then the Kirkcaldy men have chalked up four victories from five matches, and are now seven points clear at the top of the table.
Their 2-1 home win over Stranraer will put them in the mood to extend their lead in top position.
It can be assumed then, that John McGlynn will have his side geared up in preparation for this important fixture, so Alloa can expect a hard game.
However, the Wasps did very well in the two cup meetings, drawing 0-0 at Starks Park then winning by the odd goal in three in the replay at the Recs.
The same kind of effort could bring them a valuable reward.
After seeing his Alloa side have victory snatched from their grasp at Peter head on Saturday, boss Allan Maitland said after the whistle, 'Our defenders are sitting in there trying to decide who was at fault for not clearing in the box at Peterhead"s equalising goal.
'We dominated the game in the first half then they were better in the second with neither goalkeeper having many saves to make.
'But we hit the bar and had chances so could have taken something from the game.
'I don"t know where the referee got the added time from but we should have been able to hold on for a victory.'
Maitland continued, 'We lost a sloppy goal at the end although I feel a draw was a fair result considering the very windy conditions.'
Peterhead manager Neale Cooper said, 'The conditions were hard for both teams but we deserved to take something from the game.'
Following the Raith game Alloa will be off to Gayfield on 31 January to meet Arbroath, the side who defeated them there 4-1 on 2 August. However the Wasps took revenge with a 2-1 victory at Recreation Park.
In the next four fixtures Alloa are hosts to Ayr United, travel to Hampden to meet Queen"s Park, meet East Fife at the Recs then head south on 28 February to meet Stranraer.
