Alloa 2 v 0 Arbroath

ALLOA moved a step closer to avoiding the nightmare of a relegation play-off with this comfortable victory over fellow struggler's Arbroath.

The Wasps were the stronger from the first whistle and took an early lead when David McClune ran to the byline before cutting the ball back for Iain Campbell to tap in.

Andy Scott went close to adding a second with a blistering 18-yard shot that was tipped over by the outstretched hands of Darren Hill.

And the impressive Hill kept the visitors in the game again after 29 minutes, this time parrying Brian Carrigan's 20-yard pile driver away to safety.

Seconds into the second half McClune picked up a Scott pass midway inside the Arbroath half and ran into the penalty box before curling the ball past the helpless Hill to double their lead.

Alloa continued to attack a toothless Arbroath side and Campbell went close with a low shot from the angle of the box that was only inches wide.

Ian Dobbins had a good chance to reduce the deficit but he shot wildly over from about 8 yards.

Wasps gaffer Allan Maitland was delighted with the three points. He said, 'I thought Stuart Noble had a great game and I thought it was our most important result of the season.
