Defensive error gifts Brechin victory

Brechin City 1 v 0 Alloa

A DEFENSIVE mix-up in the Alloa penalty area gifted Brechin all three points on Saturday.

Rory McAllister scored what proved to be the winning goal after 59 minutes when he capitalised on indecision in the Wasps box to toe-poke the ball past Ray Jellema.

The Alloa defenders and keeper seemed to wait for someone else to clear which allowed Rory to score.

Apart from that moment of madness, Maitland's men had been solid at the back in a game where neither side created many chances.

16-year-old striker, Greig Spence, fired inches past the post from the edge of the box.

But Andy Scott went the closest to salvaging a point when his cross come shot came back off the post after 68 minutes.

Allan Maitland rued his team's costly defensive laspse.

He told the club's website, 'Defensively from our point of view whether it is the goalkeepers fault, Dougie Hill's fault or Scot Buist, who ever, its terrible. What you do is clear your lines and ask questions later and we didn't do that.

From our point of view I don"t think we created enough chances to win but I would say exactly the same about Brechin City, from that point of view I think we deserved something from the game."
