ALLOA midfielder Dougie Wilson will miss the rest of the season after suffering a double fracture of his ankle at Starks Park on Saturday.
The 24-year-old former Alva Academy pupil is recovering in Stirling Royal Infirmary following Saturday"s clash with Raith Rovers where an x-ray revealed the damage.
Speaking from his hospital bed on Sunday, Dougie told the Advertiser Sport, 'I have been told the doctors will operate this week on my right ankle, so I hope everything will be all right.'
The former Celtic youth signing and ex-Stirling Albion player added, 'I have had ligaments and tendon problems with my ankle in the past, but when they carried me off the field at Starks Park there was a different pain this time. I knew there was something seriously wrong.
'The Raith boy Stephen Simmons had a bad touch on the ball and tried to make up for it to try to get it back when I was involved.'
Meanwhile, Alloa manager Allan Maitland is faced with the task of replacing Jinky for the remainder of the season as he tries to steer his side away from the threat of relegation.
The first job is to go looking for a victory at New Bayview on Saturday where his boys meet East Fife.
Midfielder John Grant will return to the Alloa side now that his three match suspension is completed.
But there is some doubt about striker Brian Carrigan. His selection will depend on whether he has recovered from the ankle injury sustained in the friendly against Queen of the South.
Maitland was unhappy his side went down to Raith Rovers at the weekend.
He said, 'We gave away cheap goals and corner kicks too. This means we are now in the relegation struggle but, in truth, Raith Rovers deserved to win this match.'
Rovers boss John McGlynn said, 'It was a blow when we lost a cheap goal after taking the lead but our character was good. We kept chasing even late in the game.
'Alloa pushed us hard when we were down to 10 men but we broke with purpose. There was not a bad tackle in the game which was played in good spirit.'
Rovers" towering defender Marvin Andrews, who returned to the side after a long injury spell, featured well in the match, setting up two goals said, ' I was happy to make two goals but the most important thing was we took the three points.
'Alloa are a good team despite possibly facing relegation. But I am sure there will be many twists and turns yet to come this season.
'I pray every day and believe in God, hoping he will be with me all the time.'
Alloa will be trying hard to recover when they visit New Bayview this weekend but they know it won"t be easy. East Fife lost 3-1 to Queen"s Park at Hampden on Saturday - with manager Dave Baikie quitting this week.
Whether that result indicates a slip by his side or shows Queens are ready for a real scrap when they come to Recreation Park a week on Saturday remains to be seen.
