Prunty strike sends Wasps second top

ALLOA Athletic leapfrogged local rivals Stirling Albion into second place thanks to Bryan Prunty's injury-time goal against 10-man Arbroath.

With the 90 minutes up and the game deep into injury time, David Gormley touched a free kick into the path of Prunty who drilled home the winner.

It was a vital three points as it puts Alloa within a point of leaders Cowdenbeath who visit Recreation Park next Tuesday.

Chris Townsley threatened the Arbroath goal early on with a 25-yard effort that sailed agonisingly over the top.

Townsley came even closer minutes before half time with a bullet header that came off the bar as the Wasps tried in vain to break the deadlock.

Two minutes before the interval Arbroath's Steve Hislop was shown a straight red for a tussle with Andy Scott.

The Wasps pushed to make their one man advantage count in the second half and Prunty had the ball in the net after 71 minutes, but his fantastic overhead kick was disallowed for dangerous play.

And just when it looked like the game would end goalless, Prunty popped up to bag the winner and send the home support wild.
