Clackmannan County Cricket Club 1st XI are one win away from winning the Division Three title after winning at Grange III.
Graham Oliver and Noor Jhangir opened the batting for Clackmannan, but both openers ended up back in the hut with little in the way of a score on the board.
Craig Black and Graeme Anderson put on a 50-run partnership as they took the score to 77 after 17 overs. Anderson departed, LBW for 14, and four balls later Dave Watkins joined him in the pavilion - 77 for 4 and the skipper’s decision to bat looked less than sensible.
Keith Hefer moved to 14 before being bowled as Black worked his way to 50 at the other end.
Gordon Oliver stayed with Black as his captain passed his 100 mark for fourth time this season. Black was eventually out for 129 in the 42nd over, moving closer to his 1000 runs for the season target.
Gordon Oliver (20) fell shortly afterward, but Rizwan Ashraf (23) and Alan Oliver (20) progressed the score to 260 for 8 off the allotted 50 overs.
The Grange batsmen opened their innings and caressed the ball to all parts of the ground in a sparkling opening partnership of 109 off 27 overs.
The double breakthrough was made as the skipper decided to take the take the pace off the ball, Keith Hefer taking a catch at cover off Alan Oliver and a suicidal second run to Rizwan Ashraf at fine leg saw Greig Taylor run out the other opener.
As the weather turned more inclement, Alan Oliver and Rizwan Ashraf shared four wickets in the space of five overs, whilst keeping the run rate to a bare minimum.
Rain stopped play in the 34th over with the score on 140 for 6 and, with little hope of an on-field finish, the result was decided in the pavilion, calculated on run rate. Although never a good way to decide a game, Clackmannan came out on the right side of the calculation and confirmed their top spot in Division Three.
The final game of the season is against Haddington at The Arns on Saturday at 1pm - when a win will secure the Division Three championship.
