Sauchie got back to winning ways on Saturday following three straight defeats. It was not a classic game. Sauchie did not play well but ground out a result and left Recreation Park with the win.

There was another new face in the Sauchie line up with Collin Samuel coming in alongside David Winters and Darren Cummings in attack. With Ally Burns, Mark Morrison, Steven Kiczynski, Brian Carrigan and Alan Comrie all unavailable Fraser Duncan still put together a strong side against a home side that has yet to win a game this season.

Sauchie took the lead in 10 minutes. Gary Carroll looked up in midfield to see Winters in acres of space on the opposite wing and sent the ball into his stride. The striker darted forward and calmly chipped over the advancing Richard Cargill for a very classy finish from the edge of the box.

Bryn Halliwell punched away a Trialist cross as far as Ricky Patrick with his attempt being blocked by Gary McCulloch.

A long clearance into the Sauchie half was chased down by Jamie Mackie with his cross being knocked back into the path of Barry Sibanda who made it 1-1 on 42 minutes.

The second half was only minutes old when Mr Traynor pointed to the penalty spot as he had spotted a Steven Rennie push on Mackie. The forward took the kick but Halliwell dived to his right to block then scrambled to once again block from Mackies’ rebound effort.

Graeme King and McCulloch were defending strongly as United looked for a winner. Chris Purdie and Brian Morgan tried to calm things in midfield and build attacks but Alan Ramsay and Craig Wedderburn were defending well for the home side.

Halliwell had to come to the rescue again, rushing from his line to save at the feet of Sutherland.

At the other end Samuel sprinted between Wedderburn and James Drummond and let fly from 20 yards with the keeper diving to touch past the post.

Two minutes into injury time Cummings secured the points for Sauchie with a brilliant solo goal. He cut in from the left and curled his shot in at the right hand post with Cargill stranded.

Sauchie finished the match with ten men. Carroll being red carded for an alledged elbow challenge on Sam Buchan.
