SAUCHIE Juniors defender Andy Munro believes his side’s second half fight-back against Camelon on Saturday was enough to get them the win after Fraser Duncan’s team were 3-1 down at the interval only to bring it back to 3-3.

Collin Samuel had opened the scoring for Sauchie in the third minute but defensive lapses allowed the hosts to score three before the break, leaving the Beechwood outfit with a mountain to climb.

But a change of shape and tactic saw Sauchie dominate the second period before Samuel earned a penalty that saw Gary Kelly sent off, and David Winters converted from the spot before adding the equaliser shortly after, and Munro (pictured above) thinks the side’s second half endeavour warranted the victory in the end.

He told Advertiser Sport, “It’s disappointing not to go through with the second half performance. Going 1-0 up early doors, you couldn’t ask for a better start then us at the back have stuck the team in it big time.

“The first half performance from myself is something I’m really disappointed with.

“From the middle to the front we were fine, it was the back four.

“We went in at half time 3-1 down and we were lucky not to be four or five down. Fraser didn’t shout at us, he just sat us down and told us he was disappointed rather than angry.

“We were all very disappointed in ourselves at half time. We knew the next goal was really important, we knew that if we scored that we were in with a really good chance.

“We dropped the boys in it first half but I thought second half we were brilliant, every one of us.

“The boys at the other end of the park have done the business for us, they worked their socks off.” And the on-loan Raith Rovers man dismissed the notion that Kelly’s 60th minute red card was the turning point for the game’s narrative because Sauchie were already well on top of their opponents.

Munro continued, “I really don’t think them going down to 10 men changed anything because we were already on the front foot.

“We were knocking the ball about really well and we were creating chances.

“It was a disgrace of a pitch and we moved the ball around like we were playing on 3G astro.” Sauchie stopper Bryn Halliwell had a dominant display in goals and centre half Andy was full of praise for his goalkeeper, admitting he and his fellow defenders let Bryn down for the third goal.

He added, “Bryn’s made some terrific saves and he does that for us all the time.

“As a centre half it’s a dream to have a keeper behind you that will make those kind of saves.

“He’s done really well to get down to the front post and then again for the rebound.

“He did really well at their third goal too which was down to us.”
