Sauchie ........................................ 0 Camelon ...................................... 1 The Final of the Fife and Lothians cup was played at Creamery Park, the home of Bathgate Thistle, on Saturday, with two times winners, Sauchie, taking on their local Superleague rivals and bogey team, Camelon.

There was a large travelling support from the wee county, with people travelling from all around Britain to take in this Final game of the season. This was a great game for the neutral with both teams playing to their strengths and playing hard but fair.

Fraser Duncan made one change to the side that beat Linlithgow Rose the previous week, Ross Harkness taking over from Darren Dolan between the sticks.

Sauchie made a bright start with Iain Syme moving down the left and fired a low cross into the box which was turned over his own bar by Alan Benton.

Camelon looked dangerous on the break. They won a couple of corners and feigned to take them short with the crosses into the box being cleared. In 7 minutes another flag kick looked to be taking the same course when out of the blue the kick flew to the unmarked Craig Donaldson who fired home via the post from 20 yards.

Sauchie attacked strongly with Ian Diack leading the line well. Conor Kelly and Calum Hendrie pushed on but the stuffy Camelon defence tidied up before a shot at goal was possible.

The Mariners carried menace as they turned defence into attack. David Grant cut along the Sauchie by line and pushed the ball into the path of Marty Wright who side footed into the side netting from good position.

Gary Wright then watched a shot from distance carry just over. Colin Allison was having a quiet game or did Graeme King have him in his back pocket, not allowing the nippy centre any chance s at goal.

Brian Morgan and David Morrison controlled the midfield pushing the ball to either flank using Gary Bonnes and Kelly to open up the Camelon rearguard.

Crosses were cleared and shots were blocked as the Camelon defence put up the shutter to the constant Sauchie pressure.

Diack brought Dean Shaw into the action with a shot from the edge of the box, which was easily gathered. The tall centre then nodded the ball to Morrison who let fly and again it was saved by the keeper.

Darren Cummings replaced Bonnes on the hour mark and was instantly involved. Diack released the sub and his left foot drive looked destined for the net at the far post until Shaw dived at full stretch to fingertip the ball past. A stunning shot and a superb save.

The game was being played in the Camelon half with Steven Graham and Benton coping well with the high balls.

Danny Ashe was on for Colin Hendrie but his crosses found no takers and cleared.

Camelon were able to spring onto attack quickly and a defensive mix up between Gary McCulloch and Syme allowed Marty Wright a look at goal with his shot beating Harkness but clipped the upright and out.

Diack again outjumped his marker to head to Cummings and his driven cross along the six yard line could not be reached by Kelly and another chance disappeared.

With minutes remaining Sauchie had chances to score. Kelly jumped on his own but sent his header from a McCulloch cross over the bar from six yards. Stuart Love, on for Morrison, turned quickly inside the box but his snap shot flashed inches past.

It was not to be Sauchie’s day, however, as the final whistle confirmed Camelon as the DFT Fife and Lothian cup winners.
