Alloa swimmer Duncan Scott took the inaugural European Games in Baku by storm as he returned home with an incredible six medals.

The talented teen swam his way to three gold medals and three silver and helped Team GB seal a third place finish in the overall medals table.

Scott, who is a current student of the Stirling University swim team, had a dramatic start to the meeting with a gold medal in his very first race in the final of the 4 x 100 Freestyle.

The youngster, who was the only Scottish member of the Team GB swim team, swam the first leg and led from the first 50m. The boys never looked back and sealed the victory ahead of the Russians.

Day two of the games saw Scott secure his place in the final of the individual 100m Freestyle before swimming another 100m as the lead in the 4 x 100 mixed freestyle team. It was a superbly tactical race with the two boys swimming first followed by the girls. The team secured second place in the end and a Silver medal - Duncan’s second of the games.

Originally Duncan was entered for the 200 Individual Medleys. An event that he has regularly medaled in at European level. However only the women’s 200 Butterfly was between the 100 Free final and the 200 IM final so he took the decision to focus on the Free instead.

Day three was the moment of reckoning for Scott as he went into the final of his preferred event as the heavy favourite. At the turn of the first 50m he made the turn in third place before battling home in style to grab the gold medal and the glory in a games record time of 49.43.

An hour and a half later, Duncan was in the water again for the 4 x 200m final.

The Alloa native led off for his team once again followed by Martin Walton, Kyle Chisholm and finally Cameron Kurle. The Russians proved to be very strong and in the end were only 7/100 of a second away from a junior world record, so Team GB came home with a great time for the silver medal in second.

This is the event that Duncan swam third leg for Scotland when they won silver at the Commonwealth Games, a time that left them 5th in the world at the end of the 2014 season.

On the final day, Duncan returned to the pool for the last finals of the games which began with the 200m freestyle. He dived in and led from the start. Commentators, having seen him swim the 100 thought he was going to fade in the final 100, but he was having none of it and swam a convincing 1.48.55 to clinch the gold medal, his third of the games, with Team mate Cameron Kurle in silver.

Duncan ended his unbelievable European Games experience with one final medal in the 4 x 100 relay. Duncan swam third leg with the 100 Butterfly. His split would have had him medal at the games and as a result the team swam well and came home with Silver.

Duncan flies home with 3 Golds and 6 Silvers, but has no time to rest his laurels as he is immediately back into training to prepare for the World Championships later this year along with University of Stirling team mates Robbie Renwick and Ross Murdoch.
