The second annual Tillicoultry football festival took place at the Tillicoultry Public Park on Saturday.

Over 250 players of all ages took part in the event, organised by local side Tillicoultry Amateurs.

More than 120 youngsters from teams mainly in Forth Valley took part in the keenly contested youth section including local side Hillfoots Community.

The adult tournament was contested by five visiting clubs from across Scotland - Callander Thistle, East Dunbartonshire, Houston United, DTI Amateurs and Larkhall Thistle - along with host club Tillicoultry Amateurs.

Despite the games being only half an hour in length there were to be no shortage of goals with one thrilling game between Callander and Larkhall finishing up 3-2 to the Lanarkshire outfit.

Tilly secured two wins against DTI and East Dunbartonshire with McIntosh, Finlay and Cree all finding the net for the hosts. They narrowly lost out in their other 3 games to finish a respectable third place.

The final game of the tournament seen Larkhall Thistle take on DTI knowing a win would see them crowned winners of the pre season tournament and the Caledonian side ran out comfortable victors 2-0 to seal the trophy.

Larkhall manager Ian Pattie said “It was a wonderful day of football played in front of a backdrop of fantastic scenery. We are obviously delighted to have got our first trophy of the new season.

“The most important thing is the fact that all the players got another two and a half hours of fitness under there belts ahead of the new season. We’ll certainly be looking forward to returning to Tillicoultry next summer.” Tournament organiser Mark Keye added “It was magnificent to see so many people taking part in football in the town, and there was some really high quality football from both the adults and kids throughout the day.

“One of the most impressive things is that the youth tournament didn’t cost a penny to enter which we’re quite proud of.

“We actually had two of the teams come from the other side of Glasgow cause they couldn’t afford to enter any tournaments in their area and that was the first time the kids had took part in a tournament.” The club wish to thank Sauchie Juniors and Hillfoots Community for providing goals for the tournament as well as Hillfoots Rugby Club for use of their facilities during the day.
