Sauchie star Reece Boyle is delighted with the start the Beechwood Park side have made to their season and admits his summer move to Junior football has revitalised his career.

The 20-year-old arrived after an unhappy six months at East Stirling which followed a spell with Stirling Albion.

And the defender revealed he is thrilled to be enjoying the game again after returning to the club he spent time on loan at.

Boyle told Advertiser Sport: “I played a couple of games on loan from Albion at the start of last season, then Fras offered me a contract at Christmas but I ended up going to the Shire instead.

“He got in touch at the end of last season to say that if I wanted to come and sign he would give me the opportunity. I’m glad to be back enjoying football again. To be honest I hated the last six months of last season.” Boyle believes Sauchie could have taken something from their encounter with Super League holders Kelty, which saw the champions run out 2-1 winners, but he was delighted to grab the winner as they bounced back with victory over Fauldhouse.

He said: “We came off the back of a good result against Bo’ness and it was a very even game. The difference was they took their chances and we never created enough.

“It was a frustrating one to lose because we gave away two silly goals in the first half, and then in the second we just couldn’t get the supply up to the strikers.

“Fauldhouse was a good result. We all needed to get stuck in and try and grind out the result and that’s what we did in the end. That’s what you want at the end of the day, and we’ve managed to come away with the three points.

“The last goal I scored was probably in the Under-17s at Stenny so it was nice to get back on the scoresheet. It’s always nice to get a goal, especially in front of your own fans.

“Morgy wasn’t very happy as it looked like it was going into the top corner but I wasn’t certain. You need to make sure they all go in!” Sauchie host Camelon and Musselburgh in their next two matches, and Boyle believes there is plenty more to come from their young squad.

He added: “Every game in the Super League is going to be hard one. Hopefully we can carry on what we’ve done so far and get three points from both games.

“A lot of the young boys have a point to prove and nobody has really expected us to do what we have done so far but we have done it and we can only keep progressing from this point.”
