Alloa’s Wasps 2000 team has won praise for their performance after finishing third in the Coalfields Regeneration Trust’s Home Internationals against teams from England and Wales.

Scotland won the Tournament for the first time in the competition’s nine-year history, thanks to its other team from Grange Academy in East Ayrshire, and the Alloa lads reinforced the victory with their third placed finish.

Bob Young Scottish Trustee of the Coalfields Regeneration Trust who presented the medals said: “It was a superbly run tournament, and the Scots teams put on a vintage performance. The Alloa lads did tremendously well to finish third in what was a very strong field showing real commitment and sporting spirit.” Team coach Karl Rennie added: “I’m really proud of the way the whole team performed. They were a credit to Scotland and to the club.” The Alloa team was: Aaron Honeyman, Josh Carroll, Devon Douglas, Adam Green, Stephen Gallagher, Jamie Millar, Keiran Connelly and Declan McGarvie.

After the tournament the lads were treated to prime seats at the Cardiff Wolves Championship match, with the Scots lads cheering on Scotland keeper David Marshall whose Cardiff side won 2-0.

The tournament soared to new heights with a remote controlled drone capturing an amazing film of the action from the skies above Merthyr City’s ground Penydarren Park in Wales on Saturday.
