League Cup Gormac Thistle ............................. 1 Clackmannan Community AFC.... 3 A tough venue and opponent were not enough to prevent another Clackmannan win in the third League Cup section match.

A 3-1 win was the pleasing aspect from a scrappy game against a Gormac Thistle team that did their best to prevent the visitors from playing their normal passing game.

The opening minutes saw Clackmannan keep possession well and nearly gained the upper hand when a Williams shot was palmed away by the Gormac keeper in the sixth minute.

Good work and link up play by Kerr, Plank and Williams then resulted in a 13th minute corner. Carroll’s delivery found its way to Williams whose sharp turn allowed him to play in Spence, but the finish could have been stronger.

Four minutes later, saw a throw in to Plank on the right. He got to the goal-line and cut back for Scotland to jink past the defender and shoot, but his effort went narrowly past the post.

Play continued without much threat to either goal until the 32nd minute when a rare Gormac attack saw a pass splitting the Clackmannan back 4 to their frontman to score as the hosts took the lead against the run of play.

The lead did not last long, however, as Clackmannan continued to probe for the equaliser.

The equaliser came the 39th minute it came. Carroll’s long pass into Williams allowed the striker to turn on a sixpence and finish high into the net from 8 yds out for 1-1.

There was not much for Little, Kerr Bros, Gallagher and Carroll to do defensively as Scotland and Statter mopped up any forward play by Thistle as the half ended at 1-1.

The visitors re-established the majority of possession after the restart with Plank and Spence both looking dangerous in wide positions.

Play was all in the Thistle half, but no significant chances were created.

Kirkwood was sent on in place of Watt on 68 and Carroll was deployed further forward.

And five minutes later he, Spence and Scotland combined to cross a wide ball across the box for another Williams spin and finish past the Thistle keeper and give Clacks a 2-1 lead.

Spence was replaced by Walker and Williams for Rogerson shortly after and it was not long until the win was secured.

A Scotland corner deep to the back post found skipper C. Kerr who leapt higher that everyone to bullet a header into the net for 3-1.

Clackmannan saw the game out and gained another three points to go top of the section with two matches to play.
