With Carnoustie unable to field a side for last Saturday’s friendly match, Alloa were desperate to get another warm up match under their belt before the season commences and were grateful to Falkirk for agreeing to host this Thursday night fixture.

The home side had the better of the opening exchanges, but the visitors soon settled and Ali Edwards, making a welcome return to the club, soon showed that he will be an asset to the side with the opening score. A line out, 15 metres from the Falkirk line was well taken by Stevie Jack and he set up a well rehearsed rolling maul, which ended when Edwards broke off from the back of the maul to power his way over from short range.

Lee Cairney soon doubled the try count, before Edwards once again powered his way through the Falkirk defence for another score and Martin McKenzie completed the first 20 minute session with a typical snipe around the side of a ruck.

The second 20 minute period was a lot more even and the only score was a well finished try by 1st XV debutant, Jamie Marshall.

Stevie Jack set the tone for the final 20 minute session when he burst through a tiring defence for an easy run in.

Matt Pope continued where he left off last season, capping another great Back Row display with 2 tries and Captain, Gary Taylor completed the evenings scoring with the last move of the match.

This was a welcome work out for the Alloa side who start their league campaign this Saturday with a home match against Grangemouth – 3pm KO.
