Taylor Coyle made his debut for 1314 ABC at Newarthill.

BOXERS from 1314 ABC were in action at events in Newarthill and Kinross on Sunday.

At Newarthill, 12-year-old twins Jamie and Jack McDonald had another outing. Jamie was edged out on points, but Jack remains undefeated after recording his third win in three contests.

Making his debut for the club was coach Jamie Coyle's son Taylor who narrowly lost out on a points decision to Thomas MacLauchlan, of the Kilsyth Golden Gloves Club.

Although he lost out, Taylor showed enough to confirm he will be an asset to the club in the years to come.

Over in Kinross, the club had three of their top senior stars in action.

First up was Alva's Warren Miller, making his long-awaited comeback after a year's absence through injury.

Warren was up against Kinross ABC's William Lawson in a middle weight bout, and went on to secure a convincing victory, winning all three rounds for a unanimous decision.

Middle weight Ben Holwell was next to represent 1314 ABC when he took on light heavyweight Matthew Heeps in a catch weight contest.

After absorbing Matthew's best efforts during the early stages, the 1314 star forced his opponent back on to the ropes and turned the bout on its head.

Ben was so far on top that the referee stepped in midway through the second round to stop the fight and save Matthew from any further punishment.

Welter weight George Thomson completed a treble for 1314 when he boxed Lochee ABC's Scottish Intermediate champion Mike Towell.

In a cracker of a fight, which was fully deserving of top billing, George absorbed the early pressure, but as the fight progressed, he stepped it up and had Mike under pressure.

At the final bell it was down to the judges, and it was very tight, with George being announced the winner on a majority decision.

The club have two prospects progressing so well they have now been promoted from the keep fit class to the boxer's class.

Tullibody's Ian Brodie and Robyn Swan are on the verge of making their competitive debuts and are likely to feature in the club's next promotion in the Fallin Miners Welfare on Sunday 5 February.

The club is especially proud to have Robyn box for them as she will be the first woman to represent the club.

The 1314 ABC would also like to pass on congratulations to their light heavyweight star Jamie Williams and his partner Daisy who have just become parents for the first time with the arrival of their baby boy Alfie. Jamie won a silver medal at the Eastern District Championships two weeks ago the club are delighted with this double celebration.

The club operates from its own gym at Manor Loan, thanks to the support of FES Ltd and Tom Cox, of Manor Farm Business Park. As well as boxing training, the club holds both keep fit and ladies classes. Anyone interested in joining any of the club's classes should contact Barry on 07500 926 792.
