Several Dollar Academy pupils competed very successfully at the Scottish Schools' Athletics Association Track and Field Championships, held at Grangemouth Stadium on Saturday, 7 June and Sunday, 8 June.

Charlie Dineen (FII) lifted the Murray Cup and walked away with the gold medal after accumulating 2596 points in the Group C Pentathlon. 15 top athletes from schools all over Scotland participated in this very gruelling event. The pentathlon requires the competitors to compete in the 80m Hurdles, Long Jump, 200m, Shot and 800m-all on the same day. Charlie, most impressively, posted personal bests in all events. He won the Hurdles, Long Jump and 200, and came 2nd in the Shot and 4th in the 800m.

The last time a Dollar athlete achieved any similar kind of success in this area of athletics was in 1983 when D. Campbell participated in the event. But Charlie's success was not limited to Pentathlon. At the S.S.A.A. Track and Field Championships, Charlie also won the gold medal for 80m Hurdles and achieved a badge standard.

Georgia Smith (FI) competed in the Scottish Schools' Triathlon for pupils in their first year of secondary school and came away with the silver medal. The athletes compete in Hurdles, High Jump and 600m. This is the first time that an athlete from Dollar has participated in this event, and Georgia performed very well indeed. The following weekend, at the S.S.A.A. Track and Field Championships, Georgia achieved another silver medal in the individual High Jump competition.

Currently, she is ranked 2nd in the U.K. in the Under-13 age group. She has also broken the school's High Jump record and will be presented with her record medal at Sports Weekend.

Bevhan Trevis (FIII) participated in the Shot Put in the SSAA Track and Field Championship and won the bronze medal. She also went on to win the gold medal in Discus and, in the process, achieved a badge standard. The distance she threw also broke the Dollar school record; she, too, will be presented with her record medal at Sports Weekend.

Currently, she is ranked 7th in the U.K. in the Under-15 age group for discus.

Catriona (FI) competed in the 100m at the SSAA Championship, winning her heat and achieving 3rd place in her semi-final. This result earned her passage to the final where she came a praiseworthy 6th place. Earlier this season, she broke the 200m school record at the Forth Valley Championships and she will be presented with her record medal at Sports Weekend.

Congratulations are due to all of our young track and field athletes who have worked so hard to achieve these impressive results at the SSAA Championships.
