County golf news Firstly apologies to Braehead's Rikky Alexander for overlooking his entry in the Scottish Boys Stroke Play Championship at the Roxburghe golf course last week. Rikky had a pretty good performance finishing 31st equal in a high quality field with a 9 over par score (76,72,77) on the tough course. The winner (Bob McIntyre) however didn't find it tough and was the winner with an 18 under par score (66, 66, and 66). Bad weather cut the tournament to 3 rounds.

Those golfers with sharp eyes may have picked up the record breaking win by a 14 year old Thai amateur in a 72 hole professional event, beating many experienced players with a 13 under par score. His reaction to winning was to phone his friends to catch up on his school homework, after being given the week off school.

Unfortunately the 36 hole County Championship which should have been played at Alloa last Sunday was a casualty of heavy rain and a rescheduling will be made details will appear soon in the local Golf Clubs.

The 36 hole Central Scotland seniors at Kilmacolm lost one round due to the weather. Locals were a bit down the field--- Tulliallan's Phil Dempsey scored 72, and Bob Stewart a 74, while the winner Ronnie Clark scored a 65.

Bob is in the field for the prestigious Seniors Open Amateur Championship to be held at Royal Aberdeen from Wednesday 7th till Friday 9th August. In the field of 144 top seniors, Bob tees off at 3.52 on the Wednesday.

Entry sheets for the Clackmannan County Autumn Meeting at Tulliallan on the 17th August are now on Club notice boards. This event will round off the County season and will determine the aggregate trophies for 2013.

Other local fixtures Saturday 3rd August Boys Open (Alva); Williamson Open (Braehead) Sunday 4th August Alpha Trophy (Alloa); Junior Open (Tillicoultry).

Thursday 8th August Senior Open Alloa Golfers should always check with the Golf Clubs for fixture changes and late entries.

ATHLETICS Central AC - Press Report - 21 July 2013 Central Athletic Club Mens Team finished a close second to Lasswade AAC in the third Match in the Scottish Division One Track and Field League and with Kilbarchan AC finishing sixth Central now have a slight cushion at the top of the league in their bid to retain their title. The Match held in warm and breezy conditions at Grangemouth on Sunday 21st July saw another excellent all round Team effort.

Once again Central's middle distance strength shone through with Alex Hendry (9-35.16) winning the 3000metres Steeplechase in style and Michael Wright (9-51.24) taking first B spot, ensuring maximum points. Scott McDonald's fine effort in the 5,000 metres (14-55.45) provided second place points with Robert Russell gaining top B points (15-38.28). Central Athletic Club's distance runners again made the trip to the Round Arran Relay on Saturday 20th July running in extreme heat conditions and posting four of the fastest legs on the day. The Central Team of Lewis Millar, Scott McDonald, Scott Green, Kenny Hislop, Gordon Appelby and Barry Sturrock had to settle for second place this time around some four minutes behind Kilmarnock Harriers after almost six hours of running.

Central's Womes Team of Jennifer Emsley, Isla Campbell, Lyndsay Morrison, Lyndsey Aitken, Fiona Thompson and Kate Weldon looked to be winning in style with three of the fastest legs until the extreme weather caught up with Kate who passed out with heat exhaustion less than a mile from the finish, a brave effort indeed.
