Clackmannanshire racer Wallace Menzies continued to build on his recent form to take another run-off victory in the Avon Tyres British Hillclimb Championship at Craigantlet last weekend.

Menzies, who had two wins and a hill record to his name before the Craigantlet meeting, arrived at the Ulster venue for its centenary event as a hot favourite for victory over the weekend, as the course is one that favours the power of his DJ Firestorm.

The Scotsman was the second fastest qualifier for the first of Saturday's run-offs at the 1.336-kilometre circuit, just fractions of a second shy of three-time British hillclimb champion, Scott Moran.

Menzies was therefore the penultimate entrant to take to course, which he completed in a time of 39.69 seconds, which placed him quickest on the timesheets with just Scott Moran left to run.

Moran proved unable to beat Menzies' time, finishing a mere nine hundredths of a second adrift of the Clackmannanshire driver, as Menzies took his second win in three rounds.

Qualifying third for the final run-off of the day, Menzies was widely tipped to break the hill record as the track improved. However, an issue early in his run scuppered his chances of extracting the maximum from his 2650cc machinery and his best time of 41.04 was only enough for fourth, as Scott Moran broke the hill record on his final outing.

Another strong points haul for Menzies over the weekend means that he has now consolidated his position in the drivers' standings. The Clackmannanshire driver currently lies in third place, 12 points ahead of fourth-placed man, Roger Moran.

The next meeting of the Avon Tyres British Hillclimb Championship will be held at Shelsley Walsh, Worcestershire over the weekend of August 17/18.
