Over the past four months, 16 Clackmannanshire primary schools teams have battled it out for the 2013/14 Badminton League title.

After 56 school matches and over 500 individual games Alva, Craigbank, Menstrie, Park, St Serf’s and Tillicoultry primary schools qualified for the final recently. Each match held at Lornshill Academy consisted of four singles games, four doubles games and one mixed doubles game.

The leagues saw the culmination of a tremendous effort by hundreds of pupils, and included extra curricular badminton clubs, practice during school PE time and also many pupils participating in local and regional badminton festivals. On the day there could only be one winner and this year that accolade went to Menstrie Primary School who collected the Shena Mailer Shield and the Gold Medals, defeating defending champions Tillicoultry in the final. Alva collected Bronze Medals for their 3rd place finish, Craigbank finished 4th with St Serf’s and Park 5th and 6th respectively. The Badminton League is part of the Clackmannanshire Primary Schools Sports Association programme which is run by the Council’s Sports Development team and members from all of the county’s primary schools.
