The Special Guest player is ‘the Dazzler’ Darryl Fitton. Tables & Tickets Details Tel 07872078715 Equestrian Scottish rider Douglas Duffin, from Dollar in Clackmannanshire, has won two showjumping classes at the Equestrian.com Hickstead Derby meeting in West Sussex on Thursday 26 June.

The former Scottish number one showjumper first rode Laura Morton’s Aslan Li to top the rankings in a hotly contested 1.20m Novice Championship class, before later winning the 1.50m Bunn Leisure Derby Tankard.

Duffin partnered nine year old Quidam B Z to the victory in the big class of the day and gave credit to the horse’s talent. He said; “His rideability is improving all the time, he’s got all the talent and he’s super careful too. Hickstead’s always been my favourite show to compete at. I’ve won here a few times and that’s why I keep coming back. I pushed him as fast as I felt he was comfortable with. It was the horse’s first time in the main ring – a lot of horses can go in there and back off and lose a little bit of scope but he didn’t. He’ll do the Derby trial tomorrow but he won’t be competing in the Derby.” The Equestrian.com Hickstead Derby meeting (25-29 June) is home to the renowned Hickstead Derby, one of the world’s toughest and most prestigious showjumping competitions.

Golf Clackmannan County Golf Using home advantage to a maximum, Tillicoultry Golf Club took the 2014 Clackmannan County Mixed Foursomes title in some style. Played on a handicap basis these days, it was a contest between Alloa and Tillicoultry for the title, and it all came down to the last scores, and it was Tillicoultry that put the title beyond doubt with a fine score from Grant Carmichael and Barbara Ryan. Best scratch score of the day (78) came from Tillicoultry Captain Scott Baird and Linzi Wilson Regretfully only four Clubs participated with no teams forward from Alva or Tulliallan FULL RESULTS (best 3 scores from 4 to count on handicap) 1.Tillicoultry 214.0 (Grant Looker/Joanna McIntosh 72, Scott Baird/Linzi Wilson 71.5, Grant Carmichael/ Barbara Ryan 70.5) 2.Alloa 221.5, 3.Braehead 229.5, 4.Dollar 237 In one of his best performances in a Scottish 72 hole Order of Merit event, Alva’s Lawrence Allan finished a highly creditable 4th equal position at the weekend. With rounds of 67, 73, 72 and 70 at Lundin Links, it was still 16 shots behind the runaway winner Chris Robb. However it does give Lawrence ranking points and a boost to his confidence with the Scottish Amateur Championship coming up at the end of July.

Meanwhile Dollar’s Scott Borrowman was a couple of hundred miles away competing in the Brabazon Trophy which is the English Stroke Play Championship. At Seaton Carew golf course, Scott made the cut with scores of 72 and 74, but could not improve his position when he finished with a couple of 76’s. His aggregate of a six over par 298 was a good bit behind the winner’s 14 under par.

Swimming Some of Dollar Academy’s strongest young swimmers participated in the Brodies Team Championships for Secondary Schools at The Royal Commonwealth Pool, Edinburgh last week. Kirstin Lawrie, Joanna Rae, Lucy Ross and Sian Thompson (all FI) produced some fantastic results in the S1 Freestyle Relay, where the team won gold and in the S1 Medley Relay, where they won silver. These were hard-fought victories against some other very talented teams; the times were only seconds apart. Kirstin had previously gained a silver medal at Scottish Schools in her chosen individual event. Lucy is a tetrathlete: an all-round and very committed sportswoman, while Sian and Joanna are Club swimmers who take part in regular swimming competitions. Kirsten and Joanna were also involved in last year’s successful primary relay team, and so are more experienced school swimmers, while Lucy Ross and Sian Thompson are new to the S1 team this year. Ms Smith (PE Teacher) would like to extend congratulations to the girls on their achievement and thanks to Mr Thompson for his help on the day.
