Shooting sisters Jen and Seonaid McIntosh are set to fly the flag for Team GB at the inaugural European Games in Baku.

Part of a British and Northern Irish squad containing nine Scots, the former Dollar Academy pupils will compete against each other in the tem-metre air rifle event.

Older sibling Jen will also take on the 50-metre three-position event in the games, which begin on Friday.

The 23-year-old revealed that it felt odd to be competing in the first edition of the 16-day event, but praised the quality of the facilities in the Azerbaijani capital.

She said: “It’s quite strange because there is no history or anything, but I guess it would be a piece of history to get a medal. The shooting range is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.” McIntosh went on to add that coming home with medals in both events would be “quite special.” As well as the European Games, Jen is also looking ahead to next year’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and is keen to make up for a disappointing performance on her Olympic debut in London in 2012.

She said: “That’s what all the work is for and I’m looking forward to. Because I went into 2012 with low expectations, it was a learning experience. It was very early in my career and I hadn’t really worked out what I was doing.

“I wasn’t really good enough, certainly I wasn’t robust enough to stand up to that pressure. But three years down the line, I feel like a different athlete. I’m much more experienced and much stronger under pressure. And I feel that will pay off in Rio.” The European Games begin in Baku this Friday and run until Sunday June 28.
