Pupils from Alloa Academy, Alva Academy and Lornshill Academy took part in the first Clackmannanshire Secondary Schools Golf Championship at Alloa Golf Club last week.

Four pupils from each school competed as a team and the event organised by Clubgolf Scotland was played as a ‘Stableford’ format.

In order to take part, all players needed to have a current handicap.

On the day, the first group of three teed off at 10am with the other three teams following on in 10 minute intervals.

The weather was stunning, warm with hardly any wind.

These conditions ensured that the scoring was very competitive with lots of pars, birdies and even a few eagles being scored.

After around three hours the first group arrived back with the others not too far behind. After everyone’s scores had been calculated the following results were announced -: 1st - Alloa Academy - 110 points Ross Logan, Thomas McCormack, Ben King, Greg Stone 2nd - Lornshill Academy - 97 points Jamie McEwan, Tom MacDonald, Ross Weston, Robbie Duddie 3rd - Alva Academy - 96 points Cameron McCorgray, Ross Bundy, Bryce Clark, Lewis Clark All players were fantastic role models and a credit to their schools.

Mandy Martin, Clubgolf Regional Manager for Clackmannanshire was impressed with the talent on show.

She said: “Some of the golf skills on display were excellent and the high points scores reflected this.” Thanks must go to Alloa Golf Club for hosting the event and providing the players with much needed water and snacks. Mary Wallace from Braehead G.C. for coming along and helping with the scoring at the end of play, Mandy Martin, Clubgolf Regional Manager for helping organise the event and providing the winning shield, all three secondary schools for helping encourage pupils to attend.

Lastly, a big thanks must go to Clackmannanshire Councils Sports Development and Active Schools Team for assisting on the day.
