THIS year's Alloa Half Marathon promises to be bigger and better than ever with a £1000 lap record prize up for grabs.
Runners can go online now and register for the race - to be held on Sunday 21 March - which will start and finish from Alloa's Leisure Bowl again this year.
Organised by the Alloa Round Table, all profits made will go to help worthy causes in and around Clackmannanshire.
And George Aitkenhead, vice chairman of Alloa & District Round Table, says runners can look forward to enjoying the beautiful scenery that makes Alloa's race one of the best in the country.
He told Advertiser Sport, "The course itself attracts lots of positive comments, particularly relating to the scenic nature of the Hillfoots stretch but the prevailing wind along that section comes in for less praise."
The marathon's website - www.alloahalfmarathon.co.uk - provides runners with all the information they need to prepare for running 13 miles non-stop.
A training schedule with advice on what to do before and during the race is available along with comments from some of last year's competitors on what it's like to take part.
At the climax of the 2009 race, runners were asked to catch their breath and then complete a post-race survey - the results were overwhelmingly positive.
George went on, "We had lots of comments from experienced runners stating that our overall race organisation put some of the much larger races to shame, which is nice to hear."
He added, "The hugely positive runner feedback is testament to the hard work put into this event from the Alloa & District Round Table members and a big thank you must also go to the management and staff at the Leisure Bowl."
The little criticism received was directed towards the distribution of the race numbers and chips before the race start and the management of runners at the end of the race.
"The distribution of numbers will be handled in a different location for 2010 to give us a more logical flow of traffic," George said. "And changes to the Start and Finish area will mean that runners can be processed quickly and efficiently, making for a better overall experience."
There will be some changes to the course signage for both runners and car drivers as safety is one the primary concerns.
Ample changing and toilet facilities will be available at the Leisure Bowl, but there will be no car parking facility at the race site - Alloa's Ring Road car park, however, will provide plenty of spaces.
Road signs will be clearly displayed on all routes directing traffic to the appropriate car park and marshals will be available to provide assistance.
All finishers will receive a medal and the winners of all male and female categories will receive prizes.
The 28th Alloa Round Table Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 21 March 2010.
The race start time is 10am and runners are advised to give themselves enough time before the gun to warm up.
