ALVA'S newly refurbished Masonic Hall was the venue for the 1314 ABC's latest promotion last Friday week when 11 of the clubs top stars boxed against selected opponents from some of Scotland's most established clubs.

It proved to be a memorable event with the home club finishing up with seven victories against only three losses with their latest recruit, former GB youth finalist Sam Stewart making his debut for the club with an exhibition against Clovenstone ABC's Ryan McCutcheon.

This exhibition was of the highest class and Sam gave the club's coaches a glimpse of what is to come in the future when the competitive bouts begin for him.

The highlights of the night saw wins for heavyweight prospect Ian Brodie and the classy Monty Ogilvie who won with an impressive stoppage. There was also good wins for talents Jamie McDonald and George Thomson.

Overall, the evening turned out to be the most exciting promotion held by the 1314 ABC to date and was topped off in the final bout between their light welter-weight James Thomson and Arbroath ABC's Darren Foster.

The 1314 ABC Scotland star produced a performance of international quality to outclass the Arbroath lad.

After a comfortable bout, Thomson sensed a stoppage in the last was on the cards and stepped up his offence and a devastating right hand left hook combination ended the fight as the Arbroath fighter hit the canvas hard.

The club have had a fantastic season producing Scottish youth champions, hosting exciting promotions, increasing gym members; James Thomson has cemented his place in the Scotland squad and the clubs coaches also gaining recognition from the Scotland selectors the pinnacle of which was their invitation to the recent British Championships in London.

The season is now at a close but the gym remains open and the clubs' stars continue to keep on top of their fitness throughout the summer.

The club would like to thank all who have helped make this a memorable season but none of this success would be possible without the backing of their sponsors FES Ltd and Tom Cox from Manor Farm Business Park.

Their support provides their fantastic boxing gym at Manor Loan and the club are extremely grateful.
