High-kicking ace from Dollar passes his blackbelt test...
JKS karate instructor Lewis Scobie stands proudly alongside the first of his students to attain their black belt.
Lewis' cousin, Sam Scobie, passed his 1st Dan at the recent Dan grading held at the JKS Scotland headquarters in Dunfermline.
Sam has been training with Sensei Lewis Scobie 3rd Dan since he was a white belt and has shown a great deal of dedication throughout.
Sam's great achievement is a massive boost for the Dollar club, which trains 25 students of varying experiences levels from all age groups.
The club trains on Tuesdays 6-8pm at Dollar Civic Centre and Thursdays 6-7pm at Dollar Parish Church. For more information, please contact Lewis Scobie on 07891 596489.
n The National Kata championships were held at Meadowbank Stadium on Sunday May 27. Sensei Paul Lapsley, a Clacks teacher, won Bronze in the individual style males 18+ event. Unfortunately, Sensei Paul was forced to withdraw from the all style event due to an injury.
The Four Nations British Karate Championships were held at the Kelvin Hall on Sunday June 3. Ryan Irwin won Silver in the Junior -76kg male Kumite, and Sensei Paul Lapsley won Gold in the 35+ Kata for the third consecutive year.
